Watts Receives AAMC Award

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Velma G. Watts, Ph.D., assistant dean emeritus for student affairs and associate professor emeritus of medical education, has been awarded the 2008 Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Student Affairs-Minority Affairs Section (GSA-MAS) Special Recognition Award. The AAMC annually recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to minorities in medicine.

Watts completed a bachelor and master degree at North Carolina A & T State University. She completed a master’s in education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received her doctorate degree from Duke University.

The 2008 GSA-MAS Special Recognition Award will be presented by the AAMC to Watts at its annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas on Nov. 3.
