WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Tom McLean, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, has been nominated for the 2008 Association of American Medical College’s (AAMC) Humanism in Medicine Award.

The recipient of the national 2008 Humanism in Medicine Award, presented by the AAMC through the support of the Pfizer Medical Humanities Initiative (PMHI), will be announced Nov. 1 in Washington, D.C.

The AAMC annually recognizes a medical school faculty physician who illustrates the qualities of a caring and compassionate mentor. The goal of the award is to remind medical students and faculty of the importance of these qualities and the positive effects they can have on the doctor-patient relationship.

McLean is currently named to the Gold Humanism Honor Society and has received the 2008 Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. He has also been listed in Best Doctors in America consecutively for the past two years.

McLean completed his bachelor of science degree at Furman University in South Carolina and received his medical degree at the Medical University of the University of South Carolina.
