WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center is co-hosting the Winston-Salem Women’s Health Symposium on Saturday Sept. 6, along with the Center of Excellence on Eliminating Health Disparities at Winston-Salem State University and the BET Foundation. The symposium is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the K.R. Williams Auditorium at Winston-Salem State University.
The theme of the conference is “Remembering Our Health,” and the target audience is African-American women 18 years of age and older. The day will consist of a keynote speaker and a panel discussion that will cover a variety of health-related topics including obesity, diabetes, fitness, heart disease, stroke, breast and cervical cancer, and mental health. Free health screenings and vendor exhibits will be open throughout the day. The event will conclude with a special performance by Grammy-nominated singer Kelly Price.
The BET Foundation, along with General Mills Inc. and Honey Nut Cheerios Brand, is sponsoring the 2008 Women’s Health Symposiums in Winston-Salem, Houston, Little Rock, Ark., and Savannah, Ga.
