WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Amy J. McMichael, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Dermatology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been named one of America’s leading African American physicians by Black Enterprise magazine.
McMichael is among 140 physicians awarded this distinction by Black Enterprise magazine. Selection was based on these physicians being leaders in their field and recommended by major medical organizations including the American Medical Association, Association of American Physicians and Surgeons and Centers for Disease Control. Recommendations from the nation’s leading medical schools were also included in the decision process. Also selected is A. William Blackstock Jr., M.D., professor and chair-elect of radiation oncology at Wake Forest Baptist.
McMichael, the director of the Hair Disorders Clinic, is a leading expert in the latest treatments for pigmentation issues and hair and scalp disorders. She has conducted numerous studies on dermatological issues including facial pigment disorders, alopecia, melasma and their effects on patients of color. Her other areas of interest are general dermatology, skin cancer, cosmetic dermatology, and epidemiology of skin disease.
McMichael is a board-certified dermatologist who earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed her dermatology residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center.
