WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The third annual Sports Medicine Symposium will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, in the Sports Therapy Gym at CompRehab Plaza at 131 Miller Street.
The symposium is sponsored by the Sports Medicine programs of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and Winston-Salem State University, and the Northwest Area Health Education Center.
The faculty will include Wake Forest Baptist family practice physicians who specialize in sports medicine, orthopaedic surgeons and a pediatrician, as well as physical therapists from Wake Forest Baptist and Winston-Salem State. The guest speaker will be Mike Muse, assistant coach for the Wake Forest University men’s basketball team.
The symposium is designed for health care professionals who wish to improve their knowledge of sports medicine issues, including family practice physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, pediatricians, internists, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, athletic trainers and any other interested health care providers.
Topics include running evaluation, sports dermatology, osteoarthritis, chondral issues of the knee, hip disease, shoulder tests, joint injections, spine board, headaches in sports, trochanteric bursitis, rehabilitation for damaged ligaments, sports nutrition and hydration.
