DAVIE COUNTY BOARD SUPPORTS NEW HOSPITAL

April 15, 2008

The Davie County Board of Commissioners has gone on record supporting the application of Davie County Hospital/Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center to build a replacement for the hospital in eastern Davie County.

The Board adopted a resolution which will be sent to the CON of the State of North Carolina, urging the State to approve the application. The resolution notes that Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has committed to an investment of more than $100 million in improving the healthcare of Davie County at no expense to County taxpayers.

The hospital is expected to have a significant impact on the Davie County economy, attracting new businesses, generating new jobs and strengthening the tax base.

Davie County residents are invited to attend community forums, Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Mocksville and April 24 at Hillsdale Baptist Church in Advance.

“Community support is essential for the State to approve our application,” said Donny Lambeth, Interim President and Chief Operating Officer of NC Baptist Hospital. “We urge residents to come to the forums to learn more about the plans for the hospital.”

Davie County Hospital is also seeking letters of support from the community. Letters can be emailed to Lambeth-DCH@wfubmc.edu or mailed to Donny Lambeth at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157. The deadline is April 30.

The State’s public hearing on the hospital will begin at 2 p.m. May 12 at Cornerstone Christian Church, 1585 NC Hwy 801 North.

The resolution notes that the Board of Commissioners approves of the manner in which Baptist Hospital has operated Davie County Hospital since 2002 with a growth in utilization. However, the building is outdated. Experts have said that the hospital cannot be renovated and is landlocked.
