WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest University School of Medicine ranks 35th in primary care and 42nd in research among the nation's 145 medical and osteopathic schools in the 2009 edition of the book “America’s Best Graduate Schools” from U.S. News & World Report. The rankings will also be highlighted in the magazine’s April 7-14 issue.
The magazine also ranks training programs in other health disciplines. Wake Forest’s joint program with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to train nurse anesthetists is tied for 11th place and its physician assistant (PA) is ranked 23rd. These rankings are from 2007; the programs were not re-ranked for 2009.
In primary care, Wake Forest tied with Mayo Medical School, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the University of California-San Diego, the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia.
The nurse anesthesia program is tied with Baylor College of Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Foundation/Case Western Reserve University, Oakland University-Beaumont and the University of Cincinnati.
The annual report on best graduate schools began in 1990 and includes programs in business, education, engineering, law and medicine. The rankings are based on opinions from experts about program quality as well as statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students.
