Franck Receives 2008 Meritorious Service Award

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – George H. Franck, M.D., M.P.H., has been awarded the 2008 Meritorious Service Award from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM). This prestigious award is given to a member who has provided long-term laudatory service to the ACOEM.

Franck is the recently retired director of Employee and Occupational Health Services at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and associate professor of family medicine. He continues as a volunteer at WFUBMC. He is being honored this year – which marks the 50th anniversary of his membership in the ACOEM – for his leadership and many outstanding contributions in the field of occupational and environmental medicine.

Franck, a fellow of the ACOEM, is a past president and long-time member of the ACOEM board of directors. He also served as a spokesperson and liaison to the American Medical Association (AMA), where he was an elected member of its House of Delegates for many years and chairman of its Section Council on Preventive Medicine.

Franck will be honored Sunday, April 13 at an awards ceremony held at the New York Marriott Marquis Times Square in conjunction with the American Occupational Health Conference’s opening session. ACOEM is an international society of 5,000 occupational health physicians, providing leadership in prevention and promoting optimal health and safety of workers, workplaces, and environments.
