WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – David F. Martin, M.D., a professor of orthopaedic surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, delivered the Robert Robinson Memorial Lecture today at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md.
The topic of his lecture was, “The Team Physician: Roles & Pearls.” Robert Robinson, M.D., was professor, division director and chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins from 1953 to 1979. He and a colleague’s description of a new approach to cervical spine surgery played a major role in the evolution of spine surgery throughout the world.
Martin graduated from Dartmouth College in New Hanover, N.H., and earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins, where he was also chief resident in orthopaedic surgery. He completed sports medicine fellowships at the Hughston Sports Medicine Foundation in Columbus, Ga., and at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. Martin joined the faculty at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 1990. He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery.
He serves as the director of sports medicine and head team physician at Wake Forest University. Martin’s specialties include adult and adolescent sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, and adult reconstructive surgery, and total joint replacement.
