Strokes strike about 700,000 people each year. Knowing your risk factors could prevent you from becoming a statistic.
The Comprehensive Stroke Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center is offering free stroke screenings during January to help kick off the new year on a healthy note. Our experts in stroke care and rehabilitation from our nationally-recognized stroke center will be on hand to answer your questions. The screenings are free and open to those over 40 years of age.
Stroke Screenings will be held at the following locations: Wed. Jan. 9 from 4 to7 p.m. at BestHealth, Sat., Jan. 12, at Comp Rehab Plaza from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tues. Jan. 15 at BestHealth from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., Thurs. Jan. 17 at BestHealth from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tues. Jan. 22 at BestHealth from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., Thurs. Jan. 24 at the Davie County YMCA from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tues. Jan. 29 at Kernersville YMCA from 3 until 6 p.m. One hundred appointments are available at each location. Each stroke screening will include: total cholesterol, HDL, cholesterol ratio, glucose, blood pressure, counseling from experts at Wake Forest Baptist and a stroke risk assessment. In addition, some participants will receive a Doppler ultrasound screening if certain stroke risk factors are found. Participants must complete a consent form prior to the screening. Participants do not have to be a member of the local YMCA to participate.
