WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A free panel presentation at Wake Forest University School of Medicine will give high school and college women an opportunity to talk to experts about career choices in the field of science. The event is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 in Babcock Auditorium on the Medical Center campus.
Panel members are: Roberta Diaz Brinton, Ph.D., vice provost for institutional diversity and professor of molecular pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy, and Caroline Chiles, M.D., and Sally Shumaker, Ph.D., both from Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Chiles, a professor of radiology and radiological sciences, also has a degree in engineering. She is leading a research study on whether computed tomography scans can detect early cases of lung cancer and improve survival times. Shumaker, associate dean for research at the School of Medicine and a professor of public health sciences, is nationally recognized for her research on women and aging.
The event is sponsored by the Women’s Health Center of Excellence for Research, Leadership, Education at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Babcock Auditorium is on Hawthorne Road.
