WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center’s Outpatient Surgery Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) has won the Best in Adapting to Change Award given by Advance for Nurses. The award recognizes nursing teams for their commitment to the profession and to patient care.
In the contest entry submitted by Suzanne Wadsley, R.N. and Cindy Bacon, M.S.N., R.N., they described the changing times in health care over the past few decades and their team’s ability to adapt. In 2002, their unit grew from 11 to 20 RNs with new responsibilities such as opening a separate children’s PACU and caring for inpatient short-stay patients.
