WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) has re-accredited the Sleep Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for five years.
“This represents our third five-year accreditation through the AASM,” said Vaughn McCall, M.D., M.S., director of the Sleep Center and professor and chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. “The accreditation signifies our continuing excellence in patient care in the area of sleep disorders.”
According to the AASM, accreditation demonstrates “that a sleep center or sleep-related breathing laboratory has met all standards set by the AASM such as employing skilled and qualified staff, creating a clean and comfortable environment, developing a quality assurance plan, and adhering to evidence-based practice parameters.”
“These standards for accreditation and the guidelines incorporated in them are developed by sleep specialists whose knowledge and expertise enable them to tailor the requirements for the unique evaluation of sleep disorders patients,” the AASM says on its website. “Accreditation by the AASM assures quality patient care through comprehensive clinical evaluation and treatment.”
