Jon S. Abramson, M.D., physician-in-chief of Brenner Children’s Hospital, part of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been named chair of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), effective July 1.
The Advisory Committee makes recommendations on current immunization practices for children and adults. Abramson will be serving as chair for two years.
“Those of us who care for patients believe that preventing disease is far superior to treating those who become ill,” Abramson said. “Vaccines offer the most cost-effective method we have available to us in medicine for accomplishing this. To that end, I feel working on this committee will allow me to have a substantial impact on developing and implementing preventive modalities against infections affecting infants, children, adolescents and adults in this country.”
