WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Paula M. Means, M.P.A., currently director of the Office of Research Services at the University of Illinois at Chicago, has been named assistant dean for research at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
William B. Applegate, M.D., dean of the School of Medicine, said Means has 15 years of increasingly responsible experience in grants and contracts administration. Currently she is responsible for sponsored research both at the University of Illinois Chicago campus, including the College of Medicine, reporting to the vice chancellor for research.
“In addition to bringing years of experience to this critical position with the medical center, Paula brings new energy and a strong commitment to education and outreach,” said Sally A. Shumaker, Ph.D., associate dean for research. “We are looking forward to her joining our team this October.”
The University of Illinois at Chicago has total outside research support of more than $300 million. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2003, Wake Forest University School of Medicine had total outside funding of more than $157 million.
Means is active in the Society for Research Administrators, where she is currently co-chair of the international meeting planned for Milwaukee, Wis., in October 2005. She previously served as president of the society’s Midwest section.
