The Maya Angelou Research Center on Minority Health at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center will host a luncheon meeting of local African-American and Hispanic/Latino ministers Monday April 26, 11: 30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Hawthorne Inn and Conference Center, 420 High St. Reporters are invited to attend.
“We have a valuable resource in the faith-based community in Winston-Salem with over 200 African-American and Hispanic/Latino churches,” said Kristy F. Woods, M.D., director of the center. “Having a dialogue with the ministers is an important step to better understanding how the Angelou Research Center can effectively address the health needs of these communities.”
The Maya Angelou Research Center on Minority Health was established to close the gap in health, quality of life, and lifespan differences between minority populations and the general population. It is a collaboration between Wake Forest University Health Sciences, Winston-Salem State University and Forsyth County.
The center will focus on advancing research on health issues affecting minorities, developing health care approaches based on research findings, promoting medical career development among underrepresented minorities, and providing outreach programs and national symposia to promote these objectives.
