Salisbury Urology recently established a urology clinic at Davie County Hospital in Mocksville.
Urologist Vance F. Merhoff, M.D. sees patients twice a month and anticipates clinic hours will increase as the practice continues to grow.
In addition to the clinic, Merhoff performs a variety of outpatient procedures at the facility including vasectomies and prostate biopsies. He treats adult and pediatric patients.
“Practicing in a rural setting can be challenging, but Davie County Hospital has made some significant improvements,” said Merhoff. “In particular, it just installed a state-of-the-art helical CT scanner. This piece of equipment is very accurate in identifying and locating kidney stones.”
“The old test for kidney stones, an intravenous pyelogram, requires intravenous injection of contrast dye and can require a significant amount of time to complete,” he continued. “There is a significant need in such rural settings and I look forward to providing high-quality urologic care to the people of Davie County.”
Davie County Hospital is an affiliate of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where Merhoff completed his postdoctoral training including a general surgery internship and urologic residency in 2002. He received his medical degree in 1996 from the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis.
