To improve access to kidney dialysis for patients in northern Winston-Salem, Wake Forest University School of Medicine opened a new dialysis center today at 500 W. Hanes Mill Rd.
The center, Northside Dialysis Center, has 20 dialysis stations, which means it can accommodate up to 80 patients a week. It is the third center in the city and the ninth in the region owned by the medical school.
The first patient was treated today.
"We opened this center to make life easier for patients in the northern part of the city," said Barry I. Freedman, M.D., head of the Section on Nephrology at Wake Forest. "We hope it will make accessibility better for those in need of our services."
A 10th center is under construction in Elkin, and is expected to open by year''s end.
