A series of public events focusing on solutions to domestic violence will be presented Sept. 15-18 by the Women''s Health Center of Excellence at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Creative Responses to Domestic Violence
Sept. 15, 7-9:30 p.m., Pugh Auditorium, Wake Forest University Campus
Readings of poetry and prose related to violence against women. Coordinated by the Wake Forest University Women''s Studies Program and English Department. The evening will also include the Clothesline Project, a display of shirts that each represents a particular women''s experience with violence; a performance of "I am Domestic Violence," a one-woman play; and the "Silent Witness Exhibit," a traveling memorial to North Carolina women and children murdered as a result of domestic violence.
Town Meeting on Domestic Violence
Sept. 16, 7-9 p.m., The Sawtooth, 226 N. Marshall St.
A community dialogue and seminar on the legal, medical, social, and religious interventions aimed at domestic violence. The evening will include a performance of "I am Domestic Violence," a one-woman play; and the "Silent Witness Exhibit," a traveling memorial to North Carolina women and children murdered as a result of domestic violence.
Dating, Violence and You
Sept. 17, 6:30-8:30 p.m., BestHealth at Hanes Mall, Winston-Salem
Fun activities and serious information for middle- and high-school teens will focus on the challenges of avoiding and managing violent relationships. Coordinated by the Women''s Health
Center of Excellence, the Brenner Center for Child and Adolescent Health, and Family Services. "I Am Domestic Violence," a one-woman play, will be presented.
1999 Excellence Triathlon
Sept. 18, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Tanglewood Park, Winston-Salem
Individual or team competitors will swim 500 yards, bike 20 kilometers and run 5 kilometers. Part of the 1999 N.C. Triathlon series, the race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. Building Healthy Relationships Fair
Sept. 18, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Hanes Mall, Winston-Salem
More than 45 community resources will share positive ways to build and encourage healthy relationships. The event will feature live music and swing dance and self defense demonstrations.
