A day-long symposium on epilepsy and its treatments will be held May 7 at Embassy Suites, 204 Centreport Drive, Greensboro. The event, sponsored by the Epilepsy Foundation of North Carolina and the Epilepsy Information Service of Wake Forest University School of Medicine, is open to professionals and the public.
The keynote speaker is Jackie Nink Pflug, survivor of a terrorist highjacking and a gunshot wound to the head. Because of her brain injury, from which she developed epilepsy, doctors told Pflug that she would never drive a car, be able to work full-time, or read beyond a third-grade level. Now a nationally recognized author, motivational speaker, wife and mother, Pflug will talk on overcoming obstacles and living life to the fullest.
Other symposium speakers include physicians who will discuss how epilepsy is diagnosed, the latest medications, surgical treatments, the Ketogenic diet and women''s issues in epilepsy. A panel discussion will focus on resources for epilepsy.
The registration fee is $30, which includes lunch. For more information, or to register, call the Epilepsy Information Service at 1-800-642-0500.
