J. Wayne Meredith, MD
Chair and Professor, General Surgery
Dr. Meredith received his bachelor of arts degree in physics from Emory University and his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine. A native of Winston-Salem, he completed his residencies in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at The North Carolina Baptist Hospitals, Inc. He completed a fellowship in Trauma/Critical Care at Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital in Portland, Oregon in 1986. He joined the Medical Center in 1987. He is the Richard T. Myers Professor of Surgery and Chairman of the Department of General Surgery with a cross-appointment at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine. He is also the General Surgery Residency Program Director and Chief of Surgery of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Dr. Meredith is Medical Director of Trauma Programs of the American College of Surgeons and Treasurer of the Southern Surgical Association. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Surgery and for the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and on the Membership Committee for the Halsted Society. He is also a member of the American Surgical Association, the Southeastern Surgical Congress, and the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST). Dr. Meredith serves as executive director of the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma. In addition to leading the Institute, Dr. Meredith is director of the Division of Surgical Sciences and the General Surgery Residency Program, and is chief of surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He holds a cross appointment at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine. He is listed in Best Doctors in America.

Thomas Pranikoff, MD
Professor, Pediatric Surgery, General
Dr. Pranikoff is a part of the busiest pediatric surgical center in Western North Carolina, which is one of only four in the state. His interests include a broad base of thoracic and general surgical problems in children and care of critically ill newborns and older children. He has particular interests in minimally-invasive surgery and extracorporeal life support. His research interests have included support for severe respiratory failure, pediatric trauma and burns; benefits of subspecialty care; neonatal surgery; and oncology. He received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from Tufts University in Boston, MA. He completed his General Surgery residency training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery in Surgery, Surgical Critical Care and Pediatric Surgery. Robert J. Stratta, MD
Professor of Surgery and Director of Transplantation
Dr. Stratta became Professor of Surgery and Director of Transplantation at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in October, 2001. His areas of research interest include kidney and pancreas transplantation, immunosuppressive strategies, infection prophylaxis, organ donation and allocation, preservation injury, quality of life, and economic aspects of transplantation. He is co-author of more than 30 book chapters, 600 abstracts, and 350 manuscripts, and 100 internet presentations dealing predominantly with transplantation. He has been active in medical school, surgical resident, and transplant fellow education since 1988. He is a member of 25 medical societies, three editorial boards, and numerous local, regional, and national committees. He has lectured worldwide on pancreas transplantation, is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, and has been selected as one of the Best Doctors in America since 1993, one of America's Top Surgeons since 2004, and is currently listed as one of America's Top Doctors.

Gregory S. Waters, MD

Dr. Waters' clinical interests span the gamut of colon and rectal surgery and include colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and polyposis syndromes.
