William P. Bozeman, MD
Professor of Emergency Medicine
Dr. Bozeman is a national advocate of law enforcement use of less lethal weapons in order to reduce or eliminate injuries and deaths among police officers, suspects, and the public whenever possible. He has conducted national studies on the use of conducted electrical weapons or TASER®, including the first large, independent study of injuries from their use. Bozeman's clinical and research interests include trauma resuscitation, cardiac arrest resuscitation, emergency medical services, tactical (SWAT team) medicine, and disaster medicine. In past experience, he has served as a tactical physician for several SWAT teams and served on federal Disaster Medical Assistance Teams in both Florida and North Carolina. From 1999 to 2003, he served as a NASA Space Shuttle support physician. He is one of a few Emergency Medicine doctors nationwide who is specially trained in trauma and critical care by the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Md. Bozeman earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his residency at Johns Hopkins University.

Hoekstra’s area of expertise is emergency cardiology and the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes. He is an active member of the multicenter Emergency Medicine Cardiac Research and Education Group and serves on numerous multicenter trial steering committees. Hoekstra is also a past president of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine.

Henderson D. McGinnis, MD

McGinnis is an emergency medicine physician and expert in Wilderness Medicine, a rapidly evolving field and is of increasing importance as more people engage in hiking, climbing, kayaking and other potentially hazardous activities in the backcountry. Wilderness Medicine focuses on medical problems and treatment in remote environments with a primary focus being the evaluation, prioritization or triage, preliminary treatment of acute injuries or illnesses which occur in those environments and the emergency evacuation of victims. McGinnis co-authored an article for Wilderness and Environmental Medicine magazine that details the history of wilderness medicine regionalization and the role of regional groups in wilderness medicine. He is active in the Appalachian Center for Wilderness Medicine (ACWM), established as a non-profit regional organization in 2007 and is believed to be the first to address wilderness medicine with a comprehensive but regional focus to serve the Carolinas, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee.
