Wake Forest Baptist Receives Two Grants for Behavioral Health Services
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has received two grants from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust.
A three-year grant of $288,928 will be used to develop an outpatient behavioral health clinic in McDowell County that will be part of CareNet Inc., a statewide network of 35 outpatient behavioral health clinics.
A one-year grant of $82,495 will be used help the North Carolina American Indian Health Board promote access to health care and awareness of health insurance options among the state’s American Indians.
Wake Forest Baptist CEO Honored for Leadership
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dec. 29, 2015 – John D. McConnell, M.D., chief executive officer of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been named by Becker's Hospital Review as one of the “130 Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs to Know.”
The leaders were recognized for their commitment to their communities through memberships and governance involvement with various organizations and the advancement of the health care industry as a whole through advocacy and professional efforts.
Becker's Hospital Review is a monthly publication offering business and legal news and analysis relating to hospitals and health systems.
Neurosurgeon is Named to New Endowed Chair at Wake Forest Baptist
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dec. 29, 2015 –John A. Wilson, M.D., professor of neurosurgery, has been named the first holder of the David and Sally Kelly Endowed Chair in Neurological Surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
The chair was established in recognition of the contributions that David L. Kelly Jr., M.D., and his wife, the late Sally Pullen Kelly, have made to the Department of Neurosurgery, the Medical Center and the profession of neurosurgery. Supported by department funds, the chair was endowed to support a faculty member who serves the profession in service and leadership roles both regionally and nationally.
Kelly, professor emeritus of neurosurgery, joined the Wake Forest Baptist faculty in 1965 and was named chair of neurosurgery in 1978. During his 22 years in that position he directed the training of 25 resident neurosurgeons, added a major research component and transformed the department into a nationally and internationally recognized program with major subspecialty programs.
Wilson, who was recruited by Kelly to join the Wake Forest Baptist faculty in 1993, has held leadership positions in a number of professional organizations and is an officer of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
Wake Forest Baptist Professor Named Editor-in-Chief of National Journal
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dec. 29, 2015 – William B. Applegate, M.D., M.P.H., professor of gerontology and geriatric medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been appointed editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society by the American Geriatrics Society (AGS).
In this role, Applegate will drive operations to better inform and equip clinicians and other care providers to meet the needs of America’s older adults.
The AGS is a society of geriatrics health care professionals dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of older people.
Wake Forest Baptist Affiliate Recognized for Community Involvement
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dec. 29, 2015 – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center affiliate Robeson Family Counseling Center was recognized at the Southeastern Community Health Awards.
Robeson Family Counseling, a CareNet Center located in Lumberton, was honored for leadership and contributions to the Compassion for U: Congregational Wellness Network, which is designed after the Wake Forest Baptist initiative, FaithHealthNC.
FaithHealthNC was launched in 2013 to improve health by connecting faith congregations with care providers to help people navigate through the health care system.
