Wake Forest Baptist Acknowledged for Stroke Care

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has received the Get with the Guidelines-Stroke Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

The award recognizes the Medical Center’s commitment to ensuring that stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized standards.

Get with the Guidelines is the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s hospital-based quality improvement program that provides hospitals with the latest research-based guidelines.

Wake Forest Baptist Professor Recognized for Humanitarian Contribution

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Oct. 30, 2015 – Medge Owen, M.D., professor of obstetrical anesthesiology and director of maternal infant health programs in the Office of Global Health at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has received the 2015 Nicholas M. Greene, M.D. Award for Outstanding Humanitarian Contribution.

The award is presented by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and is the highest honor for humanitarian service in anesthesiology.

Owen, founder of nonprofit humanitarian organization Kybele Inc., is committed to improvement of global childbirth safety and neonatal outcomes. Through her work with Kybele, Owens arranges for medical teams to work alongside doctors and nurses in developing countries to improve health care standards.

National Society Honors Wake Forest Baptist Professor

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Oct. 30, 2015 – Aarti Sarwal, M.D., assistant professor of neurology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has received the Presidential Citation at the 13th annual meeting of the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS).

The award is based on nomination by the committee chairs and senior leadership of the NCS. The citation recognizes support, dedication and contributions to the neurocritical care community and society.

The Neurocritical Care Society is a multidisciplinary, international organization whose mission is to improve outcomes for patients with life-threatening neurological illnesses.

Wake Forest Baptist Professor Cited for Community Dedication

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Oct. 30, 2015 – Seth Hawkins, M.D., assistant professor of emergency medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and physician at Catawba Valley Medical Center, has received the first Burke County Medical Society Community Dedication Award.

The award, presented by the Burke County Medical Society, recognized Hawkins’ accomplishments as medical director of Burke County EMS and his efforts to strengthen medical care in the county.
