Wake Forest Biotech Place, Improvements to Surrounding Streets Receive Award from Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Feb. 17, 2012 – The soon-to-openWake Forest Biotech Place and streetscape and infrastructure improvements to the surrounding streets in the Piedmont Triad Research Park have been recognized by the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership.
The Downtown Excellence Award for the new building and the upgrades to adjacent areas was among six presented Wednesday (Feb. 15) at the nonprofit organization’s annual meeting.
At 242,000 square feet, Wake Forest Biotech Place is the largest facility in the 230-acre Research Park, which is located on the east end of downtown Winston-Salem. Biotech Place features laboratories, offices, conference rooms and support spaces in a converted R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. factory building.
A grand-opening ceremony for Wake Forest Biotech Place will be held Tuesday (Feb. 21). An open house for the public that will include tours of the building will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24.
Wake Forest Baptist Doctor Listed as an Outstanding Knee Surgeon
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Feb. 17, 2012 – Walton Curl, M.D., Orthopaedics, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, was listed by Becker's Orthopedic, Spine & Pain Management Review as one of the 125 outstanding knee surgeons in the nation.
Surgeons on this list were selected according to their involvement in leading orthopaedic organizations, innovative contributions to the field and recommendations from industry leaders.
Curl chairs the Hall of Fame committee for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Herodicus Society and Association of Military Surgeons of the U.S.
Wake Forest Baptist Pharmacist Receives KE/Merck Vanguard Leadership Award
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Feb. 17, 2012 – LeAnne Kennedy, PharmD, B.C.O.P., Hematology and Oncology, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, is the recipient of the 2012 KE/Merck Vanguard Leadership Award from the Kappa Epsilon Foundation, Inc. in association with Merck.
This award honors an exemplary pharmacist for multiple achievements within the discipline.
Kennedy serves as a founding member of the Hematology and Oncology Pharmacy Association and in 2001 founded the North Carolina Oncology Pharmacist Association.
Wake Forest Baptist Faculty Member Appointed to NAMI Board
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Feb. 17, 2012 – Amy Singleton, M.D.,Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been appointed to the North Carolina board of directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
As a NAMI director, Singleton will be responsible for making policy decisions, participating in the development of the organization and supporting the mission of promoting recovery and optimizing the quality of life for those affected by mental illness.
Singleton earned her medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine and is a member of the North Carolina Medical Society, North Carolina Psychiatric Association and American Medical Association.
Wake Forest Baptist Program Announces New Regional Director
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Feb. 17, 2012 – CareNet, part of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has selected Barbara Saulpaugh as its new regional director.
In this position, Saulpaugh’s main responsibilities include overseeing the CareNet offices located in Winston-Salem, Kernersville, Mount Airy and Mocksville.
“I am very excited to be a part of the CareNet team,” said Saulpaugh. “I have a passion for the organization and its mission of improving health of the mind, body, spirit and community.”
CareNet is a subsidiary of Wake Forest Baptist and provides faith-integrated counseling and behavioral health services to the community.
