TSI & IEI Innovation Summit on Drug Discovery, Chemical Biology, and Drug Delivery

April 21, 2011

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’sTranslational Science Institute (TSI) and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative (IEI) are hosting a joint summit focusing on drug discovery, chemical biology, and drug delivery on Friday, June 10 at the Benton Convention Center.

The joint TSI and IEI summit is a daylong event intended to fuel innovation and foster collaboration. “Through the engagement of our research community, we hope to uncover nascent drug discovery capabilities and targets that could contribute to building a strong and unique pipeline at Wake Forest Baptist,” said Jeffrey Schmitt, Ph.D., head of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative at Wake Forest Baptist.

The symposium will focus on research issues and questions such as: Could your current research interest lead to the development of a therapeutic? Are there opportunities for drug discovery related funding that might help your research? How can the various focus areas of our medical center be strengthened through drug discovery, chemical biology and drug delivery research?

Internationally recognized experts, including Peter Crooks, Ph.D., professor of pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Kentucky, and Scott Weir, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology, toxicology and therapeutics at Kansas University, will highlight the challenges and opportunities inherent in this field.

“Through sponsorship of events like this we are striving to create an awareness and culture of innovation that can make Wake Forest Baptist an academic leader in the development of novel therapeutics,” said George Christ, professor of Regenerative Medicine and Translational Science at Wake Forest Baptist

There is no registration fee; however, pre-registration is required by May 31, 2011. To register for the event, click here. The event is limited to 200 guests.
