Wake Forest School of Medicine’s Innovation Summit Highlights New Technology

March 4, 2011

The Translational Science Institute (TSI) at the Wake Forest School of Medicine, part of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, recently hosted an Innovation Summit at the Benton Convention Center. The Summit focused on mobile computing technology for research and clinical care support.

The objective of the Innovation Summit was to bring together leaders and scientists actively engaged in the field of mobile computing with researchers, staff and administrators interested in learning more about this emerging technology. The summit offered the opportunity to share insight and expertise as well as foster new relationships.

Several topics were discussed including a presentation on bioinformatics in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the use of mobile technologies by Shayn Martin, M.D., assistant professor in the department of General Surgery at Wake Forest Baptist; and a presentation on automatic identification and volume computation of food using mobile phones by Rick Weiss’, M.S., president and founder of Viocare, Inc in Princeton, N.J.

This was the first of several planned TSI Innovation Summits. TSI’s mission is to improve the health of the region, state and nation through facilitating knowledge, training leaders and accelerating discovery by providing tools for investigators.
