Annual Bike Safety Day to be Held Saturday

May 28, 2009

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The third annual Bike Safety Day, which is supported by Safe Kids Northwest Piedmont at Brenner Children’s Hospital, will be held Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Little Stars of Bethlehem Preschool.

The preschool is at 1355 Jonestown Road, about 1.3 miles south of U.S. 421.  The event is organized by Hayluri “Luly” Beckles, who lost her own son in a bicycle accident several years ago. She is the Latino program specialist for Work Family Resource Center.

A bicycle rodeo will be held, and Safe Kids will be giving away free safety helmets while supplies last. Children are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets to learn safety training from the Winston-Salem Police Department Bike Patrol.

Community agencies such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Work Family Resource Center, Forsyth County Public Library, and the Winston-Salem Fire Department will also be on hand to share safety information, as well as the Brenner Children’s Hospital Critical Care Transport Team.
