WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Joshua Schwartz, M.D., M.B.A., has joined the Office of Technology Asset Management at Wake Forest University Health Sciences as a licensing associate.
“We are excited to have Dr. Schwartz working with us. His medical and business experience rounds out our team,” said Michael A. Batalia, Ph.D., director of the office.
Schwartz graduated from the University of North Carolina, received his M.D. from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and was a Charles H. Babcock Scholar at the Babcock Graduate School of Management, where he earned his M.B.A. degree with academic distinction.
While at Babcock, he co-founded Audiofusion, a company that is developing a hearing aid to correct tinnitus. Batalia noted that Schwartz has worked with several local start-ups including NanoTechLabs.
Schwartz will work with faculty and students to evaluate inventions for commercial potential, and with lawyers on intellectual property filings and confidential disclosure agreements. He also will market university technologies and negotiate licensing agreements with industry.
“He will be responsible for managing technology developments across Wake Forest University,” Batalia said. He’ll also be mentoring new university start-up companies.”
