Abramson appointed to Advisory Committee for CDC

November 13, 2003

Jon S. Abramson, M.D., chair of Pediatrics at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, was recently appointed to serve on the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The Advisory Committee reviews current developments in the prevention of infectious diseases and makes recommendations on immunization practices for adults and children. It also develops and reviews policy recommendations on the use of new and currently used vaccines.

Abramson will serve for one year, with the potential of an additional three year re-appointment.

“Children are our most enduring and vulnerable legacy and they deserve optimal health and require the highest quality health care,” Abramson said. “To that end, I feel working on this committee will allow me to have a substantial impact on developing preventive modalities against infections affecting infants, children, adolescents and young adults in this country.”

The current physician-in-chief at Brenner Children’s Hospital, Abramson oversees the 160-bed children’s hospital, located on the campus of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
