Carter Receives National Child Care Director of the Year Award

Sharon Carter, director of the Child Care Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, received the National Child Care Director of the Year Award from the National Association of Child Care Professionals (NACCP) in Denver, Colo., on May 2.

Carter has 21 years of experience as a director, serving in that capacity at the Medical Center Child Care Center since 1997. The Child Care Center currently serves 234 children of North Carolina Baptist Hospital and Wake Forest University School of Medicine employees.

The NACCP National Child Care Director of the Year Award recognizes outstanding directors with proven effective management, leadership skills, and personal and professional goals. The director shows a dedication not only to the field of early childhood development and education of the facility, but in the community as well.

Eligible recipients for the award must have served at least three years as a full time director and be a member of the NACCP.

Carter earned her A.B.T. degree in elementary education at High Point University and earned a master''s degree in early education and leadership at Salem College. She has also completed the early childhood leadership development program as a fellowship resident at UNC-Chapel Hill/Frank Porter Graham Center.
