Mini Medical School Registration Underway

Registration is now being taken for Mini Medical School, a series of health lectures for the general public hosted by Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

The winter series focuses on topics such as hormone replacement therapy, the multiple roles of women and breast health. Medical Center physicians and researchers will provide the latest information in women''s health and answer questions from participants.

The Medical Center has been recognized for excellence in women''s health care by the U.S. Public Health Service. It is one of 16 "Centers of Excellence" selected to serve as national models for providing health care to women.

These free lectures, which will be held at BestHealth, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center''s community health resource center located at Hanes Mall, are listed below:

Tuesday, Feb. 22, 7:30 p.m., "The Key to a Healthier, Less Stressful Life"

Licensed professional counselor Catherine Jourdan of the WFUBMC Dept. of Family and Community Medicine will discuss ways to manage stress to achieve a healthier body, mind and spirit. Part of the WFUBMC Mini Medical School series sponsored by Target Health.

Tuesday, Feb. 29, 7:30 p.m. "The Science of Hormone Replacement Therapy"

WFUBMC internist Dr. Toni Wymer will discuss the effect of hormone replacement therapy on menopausal symptoms, heart disease and cancer. Part of the WFUBMC Mini Medical School series sponsored by Target Health.

Tuesday, March 7, 7:30 p.m. "Interacting with Your Physician" WFUBMC family medicine physician Dr. Venita Morell offers tips on getting the most from your doctor''s appointments. Part of the WFUBMC Mini Medical School series sponsored by Target Health.

Tuesday, March 14, 7:30 p.m. "Breast Disease" Join WFUBMC surgeon Dr. Nancy Perrier as she discusses different types of breast disease, including fibrocystic breast disease and breast cancer. Part of the WFUBMC Mini Medical School series sponsored by Target Health.

Tuesday, March 21, 7:30 p.m. "Breast Health: Understanding Your Choices" WFUBMC public health scientist Dr. Electra Paskett will present the latest research on detecting and preventing breast disease. Part of the WFUBMC Mini Medical School series sponsored by Target Health.
