The Web Marketing Association's 1999 competition for corporate web sites awarded the Outstanding Web Site award to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center's site which is located at www.wfubmc.edu.
The Outstanding Web Site award recognized the Medical Center's web site for work above and beyond the standard of excellence.
There were three award categories: Best of Industry, Outstanding Web Site and Standard of Excellence, in addition to the Best of Show award. Over 700 sites worldwide were judged during this year's competition. Judges included site designers, members of the media, advertising executives, content providers and web masters.
"Winners of the 1999 WebAwards represent some of the best web sites on the Internet today," said William Rice, president of the Web Marketing Association. "Corporate interactive departments find that winning awards shows company management that their Internet investments are on the right track."
"We're continually progressing with the Medical Center's web site, not only in terms of design and content, but also in providing consumers with the kind of information they need to make informed healthcare decisions," said Jan Strohl, E-business marketing manager of the Medical Center's web site. "Being recognized for the second year in a row by the Web Marketing Association reaffirms our approach in using this powerful communication tool."
In 1998, the Medical Center's web site won the Standard of Excellence award and the Best Non-Profit web site for its Brenner Children's site www.brennerchildrens.org.
